The Research Team in Archaeo- and Palaeo- Sciences (ROOTS) is at the service of the professionals interested by the history of the interactions between Man and his environment. A special emphasis is put on soils and plants. Besides being concerned by promoting the applications of the natural sciences in patrimonial studies, ROOTS affords a set of integrated analyses which include archaeopedology (field, chemical and physical analyses, phosphorus mapping), micromorphology and archaeobotany (charcoal, pollen and phytoliths).

EGU 2009 GM 11 :

Geoarchaeology: an approach at the interface between environmental reconstruction and human settlement

The aim of the session is to further understanding of the connectivity between human activity/settlement and the wider environmental context over Holocene timescales. Rapid evolution or changes in the landscape are often correlated with archaeological evidence to assist the interpretation of sediment or landform archives, but discerning the nature of the relationship between human activity and landscape is often more elusive; cause, effect or a mixture of both? Contributors are invited to submit abstracts for papers on original topics from a broad unrestricted geographical range; in particular papers that focus on European and North African countries are invited. Papers could enhance or develop new techniques and improve the “Geoarchaeological” approach. Curiculum vitae

Trained as a European prehistory archaeologist at the University of Geneva (1993), my research interests focuses since more than 10 years on vegetal resources exploitation, which include a wide range of socio-economical topic, such as foodways, territory exploitation and land management, economical relationships and exchanges, political power and social access to products, diet and health, or religious beliefs and rituals.
